For decades China imposed a 1 child policy among their families to curb their rapidly growing population. Some 30 years later, China has painted itself into a corner and the ramifications of reducing the birth rate for an entire generation is starting to take its toll on the economy. Like so many other countries, China’s workforce is aging and there are few bodies to replace them. In 2015, China retracted the policy and began encouraging millennials to have more babies…. Only they aren’t. Female empowerment in the workforce has led to a late start to family planning and urbanization means little room for large families. Today host Jack Russo asks Professor Robert Acker how countries can adapt to a declining birth rate as it becomes a problem for the global economy.
